horizontal rule

The Western Academy of Beaux Arts (WABA) is a non-profit corporation, the government and corporate powers of which are vested in a board of five trustees.  Trustees are elected at the annual membership meeting held in January or February of each year, usually in conjunction with the Winter Dinner.  Trustees are elected to terms of three years, and unless someone resigns, elections are staggered so that no more than two are elected each year.  At a Board meeting immediately following the Winter Dinner, the trustees elect officers.

Current members of the Board of Trustees and their elected offices are:

Joann Bromberg, President
Dan Bridges, Vice-President
Andy Stefan, Secretary
Rich Bray, Treasurer
Leslie Leber, Membership Chairman

MEETINGS
The WABA Board meets monthly on the first Thursday of the month at the home of a trustee on a rotating basis.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The WABA bylaws state that the board of trustees has the authority to make and enforce rules and regulations governing:
> the use and operation of the beach and other WABA facilities, and
> the rights, privileges, and obligations of the members.
The board cannot convey, dedicate, or otherwise dispose of any real property, except by a vote of two-thirds of the total membership.

The trustees also appoint WABA members to fill positions or committees to perform tasks of ongoing importance to WABA.  The positions/committees and the appointees filling them are:

Bond Fund Coordinator Robin Stefan
WABA Clerk Gail D'Alessio
Beachmaster Forrest Kulp
Woodlands Manager Sheila Justus
Dockmaster David Dempster

All property owners in the Town of Beaux Arts Village are WABA members and are eligible to vote in WABA elections, provided their membership is in good standing.  They also enjoy full beach rights.  Renters apply for guest memberships, which entitle them to use the beach but not to vote in WABA elections.

THE BEACH
The real property that WABA owns and administers is the 1,100 feet of Lake Washington shoreline and the beach, picnic areas, tennis court and boating facilities that accompany it.  It is private property (and has been since September 4, 1909) established for the enjoyment of and use by all WABA members and their guests, who must be accompanied by the member while using the beach.

All WABA members have a copy of the rules governing the beach, the swimming areas, the tennis court, and the docks.  Following these rules helps to ensure that the beach and its related facilities remain the treasured resource that they have become.

EVENTS
WABA sponsors several events during the year.  In addition to the Winter Dinner, all residents are invited to the Summer Picnic, a potluck event held at the beach, usually in July.  The Summer Picnic features fun for all ages including a fishing derby, a cake-decorating contest, and a dance.

WABA volunteers also organize races for the Beaux Arts Racing Fleet (BARF).  Races are held each Wednesday evening during June, July, and August, and participants unanimously agree that a good time is had by all!  Click here for links to BARF information.
